Careers at rab
Join the rab doctor network in Berlin (all genders)
The RAB Arztbesuche doctor network is a pool of licensed physicians who take on private home visits in Berlin on a fee basis — flexibly, daily from 6 am to midnight.
Are you a licensed physician who would like to work on your own terms – without practice administration, without rigid duty rosters? At rab you handle house calls across Berlin and the surrounding Brandenburg area as a self-employed physician. You treat under your own clinical responsibility and bill directly under GOÄ. We brief you carefully on workflow and billing and stay available as your contact throughout every assignment – the conditions and details we discuss in person.
Personal patient care, a well-rehearsed team and 15 years of experience behind you.
How the collaboration works
The model is deliberately transparent – so you know exactly what to expect from the first conversation:
-
1. You stay self-employed
You work freelance on your own account – no employment contract, full entrepreneurial freedom.
-
2. We refer the patients
Via our established platform, phone line and online booking we receive enquiries from across Berlin every day. We forward suitable assignments to you.
-
3. You bill directly under GOÄ
You bill your medical service independently to the patient or their private health insurer / civil-servant aid scheme.
-
4. You pay a fair placement fee
A transparent fee applies for every successfully referred assignment – no base fee, no risk during quiet periods.
In short: you carry the medical responsibility and the professional fee – we make sure the patients come to you.

- Paediatric house calls (with relevant experience)
- ENT acute care on weekends and public holidays

Frequently asked questions
Am I employed by rab?
No. You work as a self-employed (freelance) physician, bill GOÄ on your own account and decide freely which requests to accept. We recommend every applicant initiate a status-clarification procedure under § 7a SGB IV with the Deutsche Rentenversicherung Bund clearing office before taking up the activity, as the social-insurance classification cannot be excluded by private agreement.
How does billing work?
You bill your medical service independently to the patient or their private health insurer according to the German fee schedule for physicians (GOÄ). The fee flows directly to you – rab receives no share of the treatment fee.
What does the platform cost me?
A transparent monthly platform fee applies for using the rab booking infrastructure, non-clinical dispatch, marketing and availability system – independent of the number of assignments you take on. There is no success- or referral-dependent fee per patient (§ 31 MBO-Ä, § 299a German Criminal Code). We discuss the terms transparently in a personal conversation.
Do I have to commit long-term?
No. You decide flexibly whether and when to take on assignments. There is no minimum number of assignments and no mandatory on-call duty – that would legally constitute on-call work.
Can I do this alongside an employed position?
Yes, with prior written approval from your main employer and notification of your secondary employment to the Berlin Medical Chamber (§ 17 MBO-Ä). Civil-servant physicians (e.g. at university hospitals) please check additionally the applicable secondary-employment ordinance – the activity may be subject to approval or prohibition.
What equipment do I need?
You bring your own basic medical equipment: stethoscope, blood pressure monitor, otoscope, pulse oximeter; depending on your scope optionally ECG and ultrasound. Own car or mobility for house calls. Own GOÄ billing route or PVS. We do not provide rab-branded clothing, business cards or clinical treatment pathways – you treat under your own professional responsibility.
How am I insured?
As a self-employed physician you carry your own professional liability insurance (compulsory under § 21 MBO-Ä Berlin). Recommended minimum cover: €5m per claim. Current proof of insurance is an admission requirement and is renewed annually.
How are the working hours organised?
We discuss the specifics of the workflow, hours and remuneration model in person during the introductory conversation so we can take your individual situation into account.
In which districts will I be working?
Across all twelve Berlin districts and the surrounding Brandenburg area (e.g. Potsdam, Oranienburg, Bernau, Falkensee). You specify your preferred radius when you apply.
